MARK BISHOP- Design Engineer

Mark Bishop is a Design Engineer and Shareholder at Farr Yacht Design.  Mark joined the team in 2003 specializing in composite structures of sailboats.  Born in New Zealand, Mark graduated from the University of Auckland in 1991 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.  Mark previously worked for Southern Spars and with High Modulus in New Zealand gaining a good grounding in the application of engineering methods to the design of composite structures.

Mark has traveled to many building sites around the world in his former employment and brings the knowledge of this experience to the FYD team.  His most recent experience in Florida as the on site engineer for a large high-speed megayacht further built on his existing depth of knowledge and experience.  Mark has designed other high-speed offshore racing power cats that have achieved speeds in excess of 210mph.

As team leader for the structures department at FYD, Mark is responsible for the overall structural concept and composite design of our new generation of performance designs including the Open 60’s and the new STP 65.

Mark started sailing P-class dinghies at Lake Taupo and used to sail regularly in the RNZYS Wednesday night series in Auckland.  He has also spent quite a bit of time cruising the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland.  Mark is looking forward to spending some time racing keelboats on the Chesapeake Bay.
