FARR YACHT DESIGN EXCELS OFFSHORE IN 2007

Annapolis, MD - Farr Yacht Design had an outstanding year of victories in offshore events in 2007, with several important victories credited to Farr designs in a wide variety of classes. Perhaps our most outstanding achievement was in the IMOCA Open 60 Class, where designs from Farr Yacht Design won every class event in 2007. "The Open 60 class represents a fertile test bed for innovative design features and we are pleased to see the results of our efforts come in the form of victories and podium finishes for our clients over a wide range of events", said Patrick Shaughnessy, Vice President of Farr Yacht Design.

Boats designed by Farr Yacht Design also won first-to-finish and overall trophies in a grueling Rolex Fastnet Classic where a substantial amount of the entries withdrew from the 608-mile race. Despite the conditions, a new race record was set by Mike Slade's Farr 30M Leopard 3, with Ger O'Rourke's Cookson 50 Chieftain taking overall IRC handicap honors, and Vincent Riou taking the IMOCA Open 60 line honors in PRB.

Most recently the 628-mile Rolex Sydney Hobart race provided IRC wins for Farr Yacht Design boats in four out of five classes, as well as the first three places overall on IRC handicap. Roger Sturgeon's Farr STP65 ROSEBUD had a string of victories in their Australian campaign topped off by first place in the Sydney Hobart. Syd Fischer's RAGAMUFFIN (Farr 52) was second overall and Ray Roberts' QUANTUM RACING (Cookson 50) was third overall. David Beak's Beneteau First 44.7 MR BEAKS RIBS took division D and The Farr 1020 ZEPHYR owned by James Connell and Alex Brandon won Division E.

"The Sydney Hobart race attracts an extremely competitive IRC fleet and it is very satisfying to see our designs, including custom race boats with canting keels, lifting keels, and fixed keels, as well as production boats, top their divisions in this demanding race", said Patrick. "Consistently winning in competitive fleets has caused an increased interest in IRC and Open 60 commissions for our team. The new commissions are a welcome substitute for the America's Cup work that is currently on hold. We look forward to continuing the development of our designs through 2008."
